Why do you want to use email instead of regular postal-service mail?
We would like to use email for a number of reasons. One is cost. We would be sending mail to 5 classes worth of people just to find out IF they lived at that address. At 49 cents per letter, it would cost about $290 just to find people and that does not include the paper and envelopes that are being mailed. If invitations were to be mailed to each of these people and tickets were to be mailed at a later date, each of those mailings would cost hundreds of dollars. And we would never know if the mail reached its intended recipient. At this point we have NO money. There is no slush fund from previous reunions. We are trying to keep the cost down and not have to include the cost of unnecessary mailings in the price of a ticket. The second reason is convenience. Emails are efficient. We can write a message once and after the email contact list is set up, we can hit "send" once and know that the message was sent to everyone. And we are notified of any emails that are not delivered. This method takes only one or two people to manage. We would need a team of willing and industrious volunteers to address and send multiple postal mails. Not only do we not have money, we also do not have the manpower.
Who is the Reunion Committee?
Right now there are a few people working on the tasks needed to get this reunion ball rolling. 1965 Class President Don Miller, along with Gail Davies Miller and Nancy Thomas Evanish are taking care of the venue and all that it entails... music, food, etc. They live in the general area and know the neighborhood. Gail and Nancy have opened a bank account for only-reunion business. As the date gets closer, they may need additional volunteers. Kathy Merritt Niemiec and Sharyn Hines Kost are in charge of contacting people and compiling email addresses as well as manning the email account to be sure that all correspondence is filed and/or answered. And, by the way, these are the only two people who have access to the email list. They will not give out email addresses to anyone else who might request one. They have been helped enormously by Cathy Procik Dulka who had a wealth of information from their recent 50th Reunion regarding homes addresses but not too much in terms of email addresses. Andrea Gowka Karwaski was kind enough to take lists of addresses and look in the Scranton phone book to see if a name matched an address and to get a phone number. And we have had additional help gathering names and addresses from volunteers Dawn Beth Oister Lillis, Sally Sowden Cooney, Pat Tremko Kneiss, and Arlene Dembral-Moranville.
How do we get information if we do not want to give out our email addresses?
Email is the one sure way that information will come to you and you will not have to go looking for it. Email is less intrusive than a phone call, but if you would rather keep your personal email separate from other email, then we would suggest getting an additional email. Kathy and Sharyn both have multiple emails and have even opened a Yahoo account specifically for TMHS Reunion correspondence. That way they will not miss anything and all questions and comments will go to the same spot. So Gmail and Yahoo are easy accounts to set up. Send us THAT email and check it periodically for information. Another way to get information is to check this Taylor-Moosic website. Reunion news will be posted periodically. A third way that you can get information is to become a member of the Taylor-Moosic High School 1962-1966 Facebook closed group You will need a Facebook account in order to do this but you need not "use" Facebook in order to become a member. If you need further instructions on any of this information, please send us an email and we will try to help.
Is there any way for me to tell if my friends are going to the reunion?
Actually, there is a way. When a person has paid for a ticket, his/her name in the Roster section will be in red. Some from the Class of 1965 have already paid (we needed start-up funds) and committed to attending. You can see those names in red in the 1965 roster already. As soon as we figure the exact ticket price, we will offer the payment procedure and once someone has paid, that name will turn red on the roster.
What will people be wearing to the reunion?
There is no strict dress code for the reunion. I guess the norm might be called Business Casual. What that means to me is that I will not be wearing bluejeans, nor will I be wearing a dress. If you wish to come in a ball gown or cargo pants, you will still be enthusiastically welcomed.
